Frequently Asked Questions:
I AM A SOLO RIDER AND ENJOY RIDING BY MYSELF OR IN MY GROUP OF FRIENDS. DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE GROUP FOR THE DURATION OF AN EVENT?
No. We like options and expect that you do, too. On all of our rides you are welcome to ride as you please, in our group or by yourself, until we reach our destination. For all National and State Parks, Monuments, and Tribal Lands we are permitted to escort you through these areas and have special permissions to stop at the various locations we've selected. Adhering to these requirements have allowed our permit granters to gain trust with us, which has in turned allowed us to guide you to the best locations within these bucket-list destinations. But for the daily rides you are completely free to ride as you please.
I RIDE A BAGGER/BOBBER/CRUISER/CHOPPER/DUAL SPORT/BULLET BIKE WOULD I BE COMFORTABLE AT A NUT-UP EVENT?
Yes. All bikes are welcome. All riders are encouraged to come. All styles are respected. The only thing you will need to have in order to be comfortable and enjoy yourself is a passion for riding. We ride Harley-Davidson and Ducati, and have had just about everything in between. All things two-wheeled that are motorized are respected and welcome.
HOW EXPERIENCED ARE THE OTHER RIDERS?
Very. Most riders have put more than 10,000 miles on their bikes in the last year and on average ride from over 1,200 miles just to arrive here for an event. We are extremely proud of the experience and character of our riders as there are no ego trips and nothing for anyone to prove. Our riders have been on their bikes for decades and tend to be helpful, encouraging and very respectful despite incredibly diverse backgrounds. You will be riding with some that you wouldn't think you had anything in common with at all. The deep connection to 'pavement-time' when all of the day-to-day stresses fall away and you find yourself at home on the road is what connects our riders. Few things run that deep. Prepare to leave with several new, lifelong friends that will become family to you. We really do have the best riders in America.
IT SOUNDS LIKE GREAT EVENTS, BUT WHY THE NAME?
The name came about after having to answer so many questions from riders who were thinking of coming to this region. I got frustrated and commented that I wished they would just nut-up, to which my friend laughed and said, "Yeah, nut-up or shut-up!" The name stuck and riders started nutting-up shortly thereafter. Basically, it means just show up and ride with us and we promise it will be one of the most visually stunning and diverse rides you will ever do. Regardless of the words used, they all fail to properly convey the experience of riding through this region. Just come and experience it for yourself, the only thing you'll regret is that you didn't do it sooner.
I HAVE A NATIONAL PARKS PASS, CAN I USE IT TO WAIVE MY ENTRY FEES?
Yes. When you register there will be a place to enter in your National Parks Pass Identification Number, or you can email it to us after registering. We will give those to the various National Parks we visit and you won't be charged for entry.
CAN I MAKE MY OWN HOTEL RESERVATIONS?
Yes. Riders like to mingle at the hotel so we have made reservations and secured discounted room fees at most hotels we visit as a courtesy to our riders. However, if you would like to make your own reservations or stay with friends you are welcome to do so. Simply skip the room selection section while registering. But PLEASE make sure you have your rooms secured as the areas we will visit have minimal accommodations and will be completely booked at the time of our event.
CAN I GET A ROUTE MAP BEFORE HAND?
No. We have had a few 'gate-crashers' appear at various locations and try to blend in with our riders. Not only do we take offense to this, but our riders have been quite offended as well. To avoid this, we simply do not release detailed routes or maps prior to arrival. In your Rider Pack you will receive a reference map for the various route options for each day.
I HAVE A SMALL GAS TANK. HOW FAR WILL WE BE RIDING BETWEEN GAS STATIONS?
There will be no distance between gas stations that is greater than 100 miles. Additionally, we will note where you are limited to 88 octane gas so you can gas up before or after that destination if your bike requires over 90 octane fuel.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RIDING ON THE NAVAJO RESERVATION?
Respect that this ia an extremely remote area with minimal services in all areas. We prepare the restaurants for our arrival and provide gas station locations on the maps. There is an overwhelming beauty to this area that is easy to get lost in so we remind riders to remember that this is a depressed economy. Ask before taking pictures of any Native person and assume you cannot when you are in doubt. We encourage any money you wish to spend to go to the Navajo people directly and will highlight the locations where this is possible. Not only will you get 500 times more for your dollar (literally) and buy something authentically made from the Navajo artist directly, your money will go to help feed a local family rather than adding profits to a corporation's bottom line in another country. We are passionate about this, and the Navajo people have come to respect that a NUT-UP Event cares for them by buying direct. This respect is hard earned, and we appreciate your help in maintaining our reputation if at all possible.
I CAN'T MAKE THE DATES TO DO A NUT-UP EVENT BUT AM COMING THROUGH MOAB ON MY WAY ELSEWHERE. COULD YOU SUGGEST WHAT TO SEE AND WHERE TO RIDE?
Yes! Do yourself a favor and email us with your arrival and departure dates and we'll make sure you get the most out of your time here. Nothing makes us happier than making sure other riders experience all that this area has to offer a motorcyclist.
